"NOT CATHOLIC NOR PROTESTANT BUT CHRISTIAN ONLY"
Christ's church which meets at 5974 Peterson Road, is a congregation of people who desire simply to be Christians (1 Pet 4:16). We believe and practice the teachings of the New Testament to the very best of our ability. This congregation meets in a member's house, according to the New Testament pattern (Acts 2:46; 5:42; 8:3; 12:12; 20:20; Rom 16:5; 1 Cor 16:19; Col 4:15; Phile 2; 2 Jn 10), there is but one building on earth in Christ's New Covenant, "ye are ... God's building" (1 Cor 3:9). For more info on house churches click here. We do Bible things in Bible ways, by the authority of Jesus Christ (Mt 28:18; Col 3:17), thereby expressing our love for Him (Jn 14:15), we call Bible things by Bible names (1 Pet 4:11).
Our assemblies and house teaching gatherings are simple (2 Cor 11:3), we plan our worship to be pure (Mal 1:11), orderly (1 Cor 14:40), and from the heart (the "spirit" Rom 2:29), controlled by our knowledge of the word of God, the "truth" (Jn 17:17), according to the "truth of the gospel” (Gal 2:5, 14; Col 1:5), not according to the shadows of the old Law (Heb 10:1), thus "in spirit and truth" (Jn 4:24). Our emphasis is on His word, seeing that it is the standard by which we will be judged on the Last Day (Jn 12:48; Rom 2:16; Rev 20:12).
We are a completely autonomous church. We are not controlled, guided, nor governed, either directly or indirectly, by any other group, office or religious body, but by Christ alone through the New Testament (Jn 12:49; 17:4, 8, 20; Gal 1:12; Eph 3:3-5; 1 Cor 14:37; 1 Thess 2:13; 2 Thess 3:14). We do encourage everyone and try to cooperate with any group within the pattern (tupos) revealed in the New Testament (Rom 6:17; 2 Thess 3:9; 1 Tim 4:12; 2 Tim 1:13; Tit 2:7).
Our worship is also patterned after the church revealed in the New Testament (2 Tim 1:13). Their worship together consisted of singing together (Eph 5:18-19; Col 3:16), praying together (Acts 2:42; 1 Tim 2:1-4), reading, teaching, preaching and studying God's word together (1 Tim 4:13; 2 Tim 4:2). This we do each time we gather together to worship our Heavenly Father.
As did they, so also do we, assemble upon the first day of every week (Sunday; John 20:19, 26; Rev 1:10), and partake of the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7), and take up a collection for needy saints (Acts 4:34-35; 11:29-30), laying by "in store" ("in the treasury" "thesaurizoon") as we have been prospered by God (1 Cor 16:1-2).
We believe that the Bible teaches it is God's completed, inspired revelation to man (John 16:13, Jude 3), that inspiration and the confirming signs (Mk 16:20; Acts 14:3; Heb 2:3-4) have ceased (Dan 9:24; Micah 7:15; Zech 13:2; John 9:1-4; 1 Cor 13:8-10; Ja 1:25; Eph 4:8-14) and that His Divine Book gives us everything we need to be complete in His sight (2 Tim 3:16-17), it contains all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Pet 1:3). We study It from this premise. We also teach that man must continue to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age (Tit 2:11-12). We try to do this to the best of our ability, assembling together (Heb 10:25) and growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:18), handling aright the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15), it is our hope and prayer that you might decide to do the same in your own home.
"That in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written"
The following citation from the Encyclopedia Britannica reflects our distinctive characteristics:
"The Churches of Christ have no creed in the sense of a humanly formulated statement containing official articles of faith. They believe in the manifestation of God in Christ, in the all-sufficiency of the Bible, with the primacy of the New Testament as the revelation of the will of God and the only rule of faith and practice. They continue to advocate the restoration of New Testament Christianity. They believe that the word of God is the seed of the church. When received it produces faith in Christ, repentance from sin, confession of faith in Christ, burial with Christ in Baptism for the remission of sins, and thus leads to Christian worship, Christian living and the hope of eternal life as it did in New Testament times."
